About Cinzia

My name is Cynthia, I am originally from Vancouver, Canada. I use the name  ”Cinzia” because it is Italian for Cynthia and as they say… “When in Rome …” My first trip to Italy was in August 2009 and the city of choice was Rome. I was originally planning to go back to Spain but something happened when I was standing in the Chapter’s bookstore at Robson and Howe in downtown Vancouver.  I had Spain in one hand and Italy in the other… Italy won… Something told me to go and I did.  That first trip was a crash course of “if anything could go wrong, it did” It was as if I had the condensed version of “What the single foreign woman should watch out for in Italy”. I wanted to come back because I did get what I wanted from that trip. I wanted to fall in love and find inspiration. I fell in love and was inspired by the art, architecture, sculpture and colours of Rome…and of course food and wine. I returned in September 2010 and it was on that trip that something happened to me… a switch flipped and I knew exactly what I wanted to do…I wanted to change my life. It was a feeling in my heart that I cannot describe. All I knew was that the change I was about to make was the right thing to. I returned home to Vancouver, gave 1 year’s notice to my employer and quit my job of 18 years. On September 2011, I left Vancouver for my new home in Rome. I was there on a study visa for 1 year. Now I am in Venice and I am living in the moment. This blog is about the ups and downs of my journey continued in 2012. You can find my entire story from the first trip to present day  at http://blogs.angloinfo.com/heart-fountain-italy. The whole truth and nothing but the truth.

I’m studying Late Renaissance and Baroque art and long to see Italy. I have this crazy dream that I buy a ticket and get on the plane. It probably takes a little more planning than that, right? I just found your blog, I hope to find my answer here too!

Hi Cinzia, In Roma as I write this, following a writing and walking tour that has ‘altered’ me, and I’ve just started following your blog. I am very keen to make the move to Toscana from Australia as soon as possible and I’m well aware of the different sense of being on holiday to living a place. This is different. About to give the bad news to the bosses. I’d love to find out the practicalities/ job situation, are you working while you study, etc, (all of that kind of stuff) you’ve encountered with your new life here?
    Cheers, Ali

Ciao, I have been focusing on the studies only. I guess the job situation in Italy will depend on what it is you want to do. A lot of people tell me that there are no jobs. A good website is www.angloinfo.com if you go to this main site you will find the Tuscany and Rome sites. They have a ton of useful information. Also, http://www.romeing.it and http://www.wantedinrome.com/ If you are considering studying Italian I would check out feedback for the different schools. The school I attend is super intensive.
