And they are not kidding! It is hot and humid!!! It’s been a busy weekend in Venice! Last night I stayed in … I had 2 fans going and my mosquito “plug in” was in full effect. The Vape plug-in works quite well. I was not bitten last night (not that I am aware of), but Friday night some mosquito had a feast…
I arrived on Thursday and my normal excitement kicked in. It was however a day of glitches and I had a lot of nervous energy. The bank machine was not letting me take money out which sent me into panic mode. Then my Internet key had just slowed down completely… the third thing… I went for lunch and the large outdoor umbrella flew over in the wind. I did not see it coming or maybe someone yelled “look out” it all happened so fast really. But instinctively, I held my arms out in front of me and I caught it. Wine and lunch unscathed! All was ok and the restaurant paid for my lunch.
I had an early evening appointment and then went to watch the Germany v. Italy football match. They had it playing on the large TV in the Splendid lounge. I had my own little seat with table for snacks and spritz… but I left after the break… was pretty tired and went back to my accommodation.
Family arrived on Friday just as I was heading to an appointment. But, we met up later. After a busy day, we went to the Splendid Lounge. Family is actually my brother. I think it was a real treat for him with Splendid’s very own San Marco making us drinks. My brother got to taste authentic Venetian cocktails for the first time. All was fun and then out of nowhere I heard this man in a very loud demanding voice drowning out all conversation as he barked for a cocktail. I recognized the voice, and when I turned to look, I saw that it was the Gondolier I had dated a few times…he was standing on the other side of my brother… and his waiter buddy was standing beside him giving me the stare down. It was high school and I was amongst 14-year-old girls… except of course they were not girls they were male adults. He did not say a thing to me at all and my brother got to see the entire Italian male performance. I just turned to look straight ahead and soon enough it was over. The drama did not really stop there as one of the older waiters from the restaurant came in and said something to the bartender in Italian. I gather he did not think I understood… but, I heard and understood what he said. Hmm not sure we are going to watch the game there tonight lol!
Yesterday was another busy day of running around. I love the Billa grocery store here! I did one lap of the entire store going up and down the aisle amazed by the selection. I stopped at the extra virgin olive oil… I would have spent an hour at least because I did not know which one to buy. I found some mini pepperoncino oil that is my new favourite condiment on pizza. So glad I was introduced to you Pepperoncino. There was also Bovoletti (fresh snails) to go! I managed to snap a few photos with my cell phone camera… which I will post later.
Today I am feeling more settled and getting ready to study for a test. I have been back and forth on the Vaporetto so much that as I sit I feel like I am still on the water. Unless the building is actually swaying lol. There is a very very important game happening tonight Spain v. Italy… and it’s my brother’s last night in Venice. Not really sure where we will be watching the game but the key word is “fun”.
Have an appointment at 1:30 so I better get moving. Happy Canada Day to my friends across the waters!! Cinzia
